The Benefits Of Aerobic Exercise

Aerobics are good for you, regardless of your weight or age; in fact this type of exercise is especially good if your goal is to lose weight and keep it off. Aerobics can be lifting heavy weights or intense stretching, or it can be a rhythmic exercise such as walking, jogging or swimming; in fact anything that helps to strengthen the heart and lungs.

Regular exercise has been proven to be effective at alleviating stress, and most of us feel better about ourselves and have increased self confidence after working out. Aerobic exercise can also help to boost the body’s immune system, increasing your overall resistance to illness.

In the US, heart disease is the leading killer, and another big advantage of these exercises routines is that they can lower the risk of a stroke or heart attack. Older people who exercise regularly can enjoy healthier and stronger bones, and less chance of developing brittle or fragile bones as they age.

Basic aerobic exercises can be ideal for anyone wanting to lose weight. Not only are you burning calories, but working out can also decrease your appetite and make it less likely for you to want to overeat. Exercise can speed up the process of losing weight, especially when maintaining a balanced diet at the same time.

Aerobic exercise has other health benefits too. It can lower your blood pressure and help you to maintain the appropriate levels of good and bad cholesterol. Repeated studies have shown that women who work out on a regular basis are less likely to develop breast cancer, and the risk of developing type 2 diabetes is also lower too.

However it isn’t just your body that can benefit from regular walking, stretching or lifting weights. Regular working out can improve the memory and the ability to focus, and can even lower the chances of becoming depressed. Most of us simply feel better if we know we are exercising.

A gym membership can be expensive, and walking, swimming or simple stretches have the advantage of being easy to do, and requiring no special equipment. It costs nothing to walk around the block a few times a night, or to walk around your office building or school a couple of times a day. Although working out with a companion may be more fun, you can cycle, swim or jog by yourself just as easily; in fact, there is no excuse not to get in shape.
